2014-12: Eyelid surgery in anophthalmic socket patients

Orbit and melanoma
Outcome research
Investigator Initiated Research
Inclusion open since 1-5-2014

Following the removal of an eye, volume changes in the orbit may lead to eyelid malpositions (for example ectropion, entropion, blepharoptosis). It is widely thought that the replacement by an orbital implant and the appropriate fitting of an artificial eye may prevent the cosmetically disturbing post enucleation socket syndrome and yields the best cosmetic outcome. However, the current incidence and efficacy of eyelid surgery in anophthalmic socket patients and the potential relationship with orbital implant size are unknown.
