Investigator Initiated Research
Inclusion open since 1-6-2003
The aim of the study was to investigate whether revascularisation and RPE- and choroid survival occurs in an autologous free graft (patch) consisting of retinal pigment epithelium and choroid and to identify factors that influence this process. By doing so establishing whether organ cultured choroid and RPE would maintain organotypic features to be a reliable replacement for in the vivo experiments with mini-pigs. We prepared graft and recipient with various modifications from porcine eyes, with a postmortem interval of two hours. Supernatant fluid has been collected to identify factors involved in the patch-recipient interaction.
